I hate how much people treat executive dysfunction like it’s not a real disability
Living with executive dysfunction is like having one of those dreams where you’re trying to run, but your legs won’t move
Being unable to make the connection between a thought and an action makes everything in life a challenge, unless you have it down rote and don’t have to go through the process to begin with.
Watching people struggle to do things they love, and the ensuing misery when they can’t make any headway, never gets taken as ‘oh, they really can’t do it.’ It gets taken as ‘wow, what a weak person.’
Or else it becomes “Wow, they must not really be interested in doing The Thing, because if they were interested, they’d have done it already.” Or “They must have so many emotional-psychological barriers to doing The Thing based on deep-seated conflicts that only a therapist can untangle.”
